I just finished reading “Tiny Diner” by Tim Kreider, and I’ve been enjoying it, too. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it. It’s one of the best books I’ve read in a while, and it’s filled with the best anecdotes and humor about our food culture.

Its not a bad thing, but its a bit disappointing that you have to talk to the server, especially if you plan to eat at the restaurant. A lot of times when Im eating a meal, Im the one talking to the server. I do enjoy it, but Im really glad Im not the one being the server.

Ive found myself saying that a lot lately. I think Im going to have to change that.

Which is exactly why it’s so important to take care of your guests. A good server should be a friendly, helpful, and engaging person.

The issue is that most servers come from backgrounds in hospitality. They understand good service and they want to be the best they can be. Their job is to take care of their guests and bring them a meal that makes them happy. Most of them have college degrees or are self-taught because they know that their job is to make their guests feel good. So you can see how having a good server is important.

The bad part is most servers are probably out of their jobs within an hour because they treat their guests poorly because to them, that’s what hospitality is. While that’s not an issue for the average customer, it’s an issue for the server and a problem for the restaurant. If you don’t want your guest to be annoyed by a bad server then it’s important to think of your server as a good person.

Its better to be the type of person who treats your guest well than the type of person who treats your guests badly. The reason for this is that your server is the one who’s setting the tone for the entire evening. She’s got the power to make the guest feel good and have them leave happy. She’s the one who’s making the meal special and memorable, so you need to treat her well.
