I have always found it amazing that in the world of marketing, data is an incredibly valuable asset. I like to think that this can help you be more successful at your job, but the data I am referring to here is the data that is gathered by buyers, sellers, and even sellers themselves. I found that data to be very helpful as a business owner when I was selling my home and trying to sell my townhouse.
It was a very hot spring weekend in the summer of 2011. I was trying to sell my house to a buyer, and the transaction was going smoothly until I got the call from the real estate agent asking me to go down the street to the townhouse to take the seller’s data. The only reason sellers have any power here is because we’ve made the sellers API public. Sellers can only access the data through the web service, not the buyers API. If you are a buyer, you do not need to access the sellers API, so you don’t need any of their data. If you are a seller, you have to verify the buyer, making it harder for sellers to participate in the buying process.
One of the problems with the buyers API is that it is very difficult to query the data. This is because the buyers are not just selling a product, but rather they are selling a piece of their life. Unlike real estate, the buyers are not just purchasing a house, they are buying a job, a piece of their identity, and they are making it public.
